MaUsE Privacy Statement

Macintosh Users East [MaUsE] respects the right of its members to keep personal information private; this statement outlines the club's intent with regard to members' personal information.

The club collects personal information for its membership records from each member at the time that they join the club: the information collected includes but is not limited to such things as name, mailing and email addresses, telephone number, description of members' computing equipment, and computing interests; the information thus gathered is used to provide programmes that meet the members' needs, to notify members of important club information, and to enable the treasurer to collect membership renewal fees when they become due.

The club's bye-laws, section 06 - Membership List, stipulate that:

"The club's membership List shall not be sold or made available to anyone outside of the executive committee except in exceptional circumstances, and, even then, before the list is made available it shall require the passing of a specific resolution by the executive committee granting that special 'one-time' exception to these by-laws".

The repository of member information is the membership database maintained by the MaUsE Membership Chairman.

The club's Internet site also contains member information. Some of this data is sourced from the membership database but can be edited on the Internet site by the club member. The site also maintains member information, not already recorded in the membership database, that members may elect to provide, such as a picture of the club member. Finally, the site may also contain a very limited amount of member personal information that cannot be edited by the member except by contacting the site administrator and requesting a change.

The intent of maintaining any personal member information on the MaUsE Internet site is to foster the sharing of computer knowledge and skills between members of MaUsE. No personal member information on the MaUsE site can be viewed by non-members of the club, and even members can only view a very limited amount of other members' information. No member postal address, email address, or telephone number data is displayed on the site, even to other club members.

Every reasonable effort will be made to ensure that personal member information residing in the membership database and the MaUsE Internet site is kept secure and utilized strictly on a "need to know" basis by the club.

Members having any comments, questions, or concerns about their personal information or the club's treatment of that information are invited to contact the MaUsE President, Membership Chairman, or any other member of the club Executive.
